Two, twin-span road bridges:

• Rock coring and geotechnical investigation for piling
• 1050mm diameter cast-in-place concrete piers

• Service adjustments and excavation for new reticulation conduits (water, drainage, sewer, gas, electricity, telecommunications)
• Demolition of redundant structures and minor buildings

Road works:

• New traffic signals at three intersections
• 203m² polythene membrane and 40mpa concrete for bridge approach slabs
• Fabricate and install traffic barrier railings
• Kerbs and gutters, access driveways, footpaths and cycle paths
• Cut and fill earthworks and soil nailing
• Heavy duty dense graded asphalt pavement construction; (corrective, intermediate and wearing courses) on lean-mix concrete sub-base
• Safety barrier systems
• Pavement marking
• Road signage

Major challenges are the large number of overhead and buried service lines which need to be relocated, environmental risks associated with large-scale earthworks and construction immediately adjacent to a waterway, and minimising disruption to normal traffic movements. Separate, dedicated, specialist teams for bridgeworks and for utilities service adjustments and earthworks worked in parallel under strong central coordination. Winner: Roads and Maritime Services Construction Quality Award.

The OHL-Abergeldie upgrade was stage one of three of the Schofields Road upgrade to allow Schofields Road to cross the Blacktown-Richmond rail line via an underpass before continuing to South Street to link with Richmond Road at Marsden Park. The upgrade decreases congestion and makes the road safer during possible flood events.
