TIN CAN BAY, RAINBOW BEACH AND COOLOOLA COVE
Construction, testing and commissioning of three new treatment plants at Tin Can Bay, Rainbow Beach and Cooloola Cove to accommodate a growing seaside community. The process design incorporates Biological Nutrient Removal technology to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus and also includes chemical dosing to ensure that required treatment standards can be reliably achieved. The scope of works included inlet structures including receiver chambers, oxidation ditch/bioreactors, secondary clarifiers, pump stations, Chlorine detention tanks and chlorination systems, control/amenities buildings, hydraulic structures, chemical storage and dosing facilities, pipework, earthworks, roads and landscaping. Abergeldie was also required to design, install and commission electrical systems, inlet screening equipment, aeration brushes, clarifier equipment and pumps for RAS.
Although the contract was let as a single project, and the plants specified for each of the three sites were to use common systems, design and construction had to be approached as three separate projects due to the very different ground conditions and dewatering systems at each site.
