ERARING POWER STATION CANAL REPAIRS

Abergeldie was engaged to drain and clean the inlet and outlet canals carrying cooling water to the power station from the adjacent lake, asses the condition of concrete structures and hydrostatic seals, and carry out repairs to degraded surfaces and seals, and other maintenance works to associated support structures.

All works were carried out over a short window of opportunity during a scheduled maintenance shut-down of the power station. To complete works within the available possession period, it was essential that activities be planned and monitored on an hour by hour basis. Back-up manpower, equipment and materials were kept available to be called on at short notice if required. Detailed inspection of the concrete surfaces, once revealed after cleaning, showed that the scale of the repair work required was greater than anticipated. Additional resources were deployed to accelerate the program and complete the works within the time window.
