MINTO RAIL BRIDGE REHABILITATION
Abergeldie was engaged to carry out structural repairs to the superstructure and substructure of a rail bridge over a waterway. Scope comprised repairs to cracked and weathered brickwork and spalled concrete in the piers and sills, repairs to joints in the concrete superstructure, and application of strengthening DFRP strips to girders. Repairs to degraded concrete required careful inspection and assessment of the depth and severity of spalling to inform selection of the most effective and economical corrective and procedures, which used a combination of resin injection, polymer mortar, bonding primer and protective coating. All on-site works were scheduled during a single weekend rail possession period, with crews working 12 hour shifts around the clock with works programmed on an hour by hour basis to take maximum advantage of the available rail shut down time.
