THE PONDS BRIDGE

Project description:
Construction of a four lane precast concrete and cable-stayed bridge as part of the new Stanhope Parkway for vehicular traffic, pedestrian access and a cycleway linking Quakers Hill with the new Stanhope Gardens residential estate. Scope included piling, retaining walls, a cast in-situ central column, placement of pre-cast concrete decking, pre-cast concrete span girders, a cantilevered cable-stayed footpath, approach slab and railings.
Complex Challenges:
Abergeldie’s review of the design drawings indicated an opportunity for a change to the footing design which achieved acceleration of the construction process without compromising structural integrity.
A complex element of the construction for the bridge span required accurate placement of 22 pre-cast concrete girders. Production, delivery and installation was carefully staged and executed precisely as planned.
