Major upgrade to an existing sewage treatment plant to increase capacity and improve process performance standards to meet the needs of increasing residential populations in South Eastern Queensland’s regional centres. Works addressed all areas of the plant’s mechanical and chemical processes, systems and supporting infrastructure, with particular attention to upgrading of PLC/SCADA based controls.
All works were carried out under brownfield conditions immediately adjacent to a continuously operating existing plant. Cutting-in of new process elements and pipe work had to be closely coordinated with the plant’s operations management team. Some work could only be carried out under “permit to interrupt” conditions.
Excavation for the extensive network of new connecting pipelines had to be undertaken with great care and accuracy due to the large number of existing underground service lines.
Civil construction work was programmed around the procurement schedule, as some major items of equipment had a delivery lead time of up to 24 weeks.
