LOGAN CENTRAL BUS STATION

Project description:

The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads appointed Abergeldie as Head Contractor for the construction of a new bus interchange station on Wembley Road, immediately in front of the Logan Central Plaza shopping centre. The project entailed replacing one bus platform with 3 new platforms. The upgrade included a new control building with amenities for bus drivers, raised platforms and covered shelters for passengers, realignment and widening of the dual carriageway to provide bus bays, and a new traffic light controlled intersection.

The new station is a major upgrade and expansion of pre-existing facilities.

Complex Challenges:

The generally straightforward building and civil construction nature of the project was complicated by the heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the immediate vicinity of the site. It was essential that there be minimal disruption to pedestrian and vehicular access to the shopping centre and its car parks. Staging and segmentation of works and delineation of works area boundaries was arranged to minimise the duration and extent of pedestrian and vehicular deviations from previously familiar patterns.
