Works were planned to a fast-tracked, tight deadline due to the complexity of the staged program, with multiple concurrent work fronts to ensure works were completed in time for race event.

It was essential to maintain access to businesses and residences along the racecourse route. Environmental protection was another high priority, as natural drainage from all areas of the works runs directly into Newcastle Harbour, across beachside parkland or onto surf beaches.

The project also required management of public relations and liaison with multiple third-party interest as the project was widely publicised and had raised considerable public interest, both positive and negative.

Abergeldie developed a local procurement plan to engage local suppliers, vendors, and workers for the duration of the works. The Newcastle 500 Supercars annual event (2018 – 2021) also bolster the local economy by employing local businesses and encouraging local attendees and tourists to attend the event estimated to bring in around $14.2m to the local economy per year.
