SOUTH CREEK BRIDGE

Project Description:

Construction of a three span bridge as part of the pedestrian and cycleway between Flats Lagoon at McGraths and Macquarie Street, Windsor. The design incorporated supporting pre-tensioned 28.5 meter ‘I’ girders with precast transfloor floor panels as permanent formwork overlayed with an in situ slab. Scope included handrails and balustrades along the bridge, gates, fences, 880m of coloured concrete pathway, landscape and drainage rectification and earthworks.

Complex Challenges:

The bridge required construction of piles and pile caps immediately adjacent to South Creek, demanding rigorous attention to environmental controls and the construction of access and working platforms for the piling rig. The connecting footpaths run parallel to Windsor Road, which required well-planned traffic control measures for access the site and pedestrian controls to ensure safety without unduly restricting through access.
