COOMBABAH WWTP AIR LINES REPLACEMENT

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

As part of a broader upgrade by Allconnex Water for Gold Coast City Council, Abergeldie was appointed to prepare detailed designs and specifications and carry out construction work and installation of new airlines and associated equipment for the Coombabah wastewater treatment plant’s existing aeration basins E and F.

Complex Challenges:

All works were carried out under brownfield conditions on a continuously operating wastewater treatment plant. Other packages of works were also being carried out at the same time by other contractors working on nearby elements of the same plant. Communication protocols between construction, subcontractor and plant operations teams were agreed at project initiation to minimise risks of conflict. Clear delineation was made between the working areas of all parties, with no go areas fenced off and entry strictly controlled. Aeration tanks E and F were isolated from the rest of the plant throughout the construction and installation phases, and cut in to the existing plant during a strictly scheduled time window to prevent interruption to the continuous operation of the overall plant.
